Thank you to Edelweiss and Minotaur books for an eARC of this book。 I always love reading a Vera。 I’m always curious about what secrets will be dug up, and I definitely wanted to see how Vera and the team were doing after the bombshell that was the Rising Tide ending。 Cleeves brings the setting to life, and I could picture the different areas of the investigation so well。 I love the series and this was a book that I wanted to keep picking up。 With that said, it did feel a little big long。 And I Thank you to Edelweiss and Minotaur books for an eARC of this book。 I always love reading a Vera。 I’m always curious about what secrets will be dug up, and I definitely wanted to see how Vera and the team were doing after the bombshell that was the Rising Tide ending。 Cleeves brings the setting to life, and I could picture the different areas of the investigation so well。 I love the series and this was a book that I wanted to keep picking up。 With that said, it did feel a little big long。 And I was annoyed with how Vera kept her team in the dark for so long, especially given how everyone was thinking about how they hoped she had changed after the very bad thing that happened in the last case。 BUT I’m really excited about a couple new characters who I hope will be recurring。 There is such potential for character growth in several people, and I would love to see some forward motion in that sense。 I have high hopes for future books, and this is 100% a must-read series for me。 。。。more
Sarah,
Good, and one of the more successful Vera Stanhope mysteries。 I wish some of the final details were a bit more clear and fleshed out。
